FCHS facilities temporarily closed to public

In order to protect our staff, volunteers, researchers and visitors, the Franklin County Historical Society is taking the following precautions:

The Old Depot Museum at 135 W Tecumseh in Ottawa, Kansas, will be closed to the public through Sunday, March 29 until further notice. We recognize that Kansas’ experience with COVID-19 is changing rapidly, and FCHS buildings will remain closed while KDHE and the county health department recommend limiting group sizes.

The Franklin County Records & Research Center at 1124 W 7th Street Terrace in Ottawa, Kansas, will be closed to in-person researchers through Sunday, March 29 until further notice. However, staff will be on hand to field phone or e-mail research requests. Please call (785) 242-1232 or contact Ashley Brannan for more information or to make a research request.

The Pi Kappa Delta exhibit grand opening reception, scheduled for Friday, March 13, at the Old Depot Museum, has been canceled.

The public areas at the Old Depot Museum will be professionally cleaned during the days the building is closed to ensure we reopen with the safest environment possible.

We have numerous events scheduled in April. At this time, these events will remain on the schedule, but we will make adjustments as needed.

Thank you for your patience during this challenging time. Stay well, wash your hands, get your local history fix via Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, and remember that history is forever–we’ll reopen when it’s safe to do so. No doubt one day, a future generation will be telling the story of when the COVID-19 impacted the entire globe in 2020.
